The speaker cable needs to transfer power from the amplifier to drive the loudspeaker with a signal that varies hugely in both level and frequency.
Many factors affect how well a cable can perform this task, quality and construction of conductors, shielding from outside interference, electrical, radio frequency and even airborne vibration. Some high performance cables employ sophisticated materials and construction methods to help achieve this end, however, depending on the application, excellent results can often be achieved utilising good quality materials in simple configurations.
Don’t forget the terminations; proper terminations with good contact area such as Atlas Zed plugs benefit even the least expensive cables.
